The Answer's "Raise a Little Hell" is definitely an enjoyable album, but it turned out to be surprisingly difficult to describe in a way that does it justice. Yes, it is Hard Rock, but there is so much more to this album. There are parts that show a strong blues influence - not really surprising for a Hard Rock album -, but there are also strong hints of Southern Rock, and Southern Rock influenced Metal.

This is also why I believe that it would not do the band justice to simply call their album “Rock n’ Roll”, or “Hard Rock”, because neither label really fits. Yes, songs like “Long Live The Renegades” are definitely Hard Rock, but other songs like “Cigarettes and Regrets” have a much more Blues/Southern Rock like vibe, while “Whiplash” has a clear Heavy Metal touch, but without betraying the band’s Southern Rock roots.

So yes, maybe their self-chosen label “Rock” fits them best? But no matter whether you call the band’s style Rock or something else, the album is absolutely rock solid!
