By the Patient seemed like a band right up my alley. They are on a great label in Lifeforce Records and they play their own brand of blackened thrash metal. They seem like a cross between Skeletonwitch and Amon Amarth. The problem? Even after repeated listens, nothing on “Gehenna” is compelling. The songs all blend into each other. I’d love to mention song titles and highlights but to be honest, I can’t think of any. It’s not a BAD album at all, but it’s not a good one either.

On paper, they have a style that should be quite good but like their name (which is pretty terrible), you must have to be super patient for the songs to hit you. In fairness, I listen to a LOT of music so an album like this needs to make an impression after a few listens. It just never did that. I think if people are into melodic black metal and/or thrash metal, this is a release to look into but definitely a “try before buy” situation.
