After releasing their 2009 LP, 'Shadows of the Shapless' and their first album 'Counting Heartbeats' this is Swedish Kongh's third release. On this new album they have developed their sludgy doom style even further into a style of their own. With only four tracks the album almost clocks in at 45 minutes. Because of the variation I can easily listen to it from start to finish.

Sludgy doom is not a style I am really into, but by adding more psychedelic and progressive rock influences they keep the music interesting. David Johansson who is responsible for bass, guitar and vocals changes from clean vocals into harsh growling ones like a chameleon changes its colors. The dirty riffs are brutal and in between the more mellow instrumental psychedelic prog/rock parts, the album is indeed heavy like King Kong. The album has a very intense and heavy sound, the mixing and production part is well done by Magnus Lindberg (Cult of Luna). Surely this isn't an album for classic doom adapts, who are into Candlemass kind of stuff, but more for those, who think Kyuss could use some more variation. Even Mastedon lovers will find some interesting elements on this album.

Like I already said, I'm not really a sludge/doom lover, but I can imagine that for those, who like their sludge with more variation: read psychedelic and progressive rock elements, this record will be your first hammer this year.
