Five years ago after a visit to the play 'The Name of the Rose', David Grimoire and Adrian Crow decided to work together to make an album combining metal and theater. Opera Diabolicus was born. David is responsible for the music and Adrian wrote the lyrics. This concept album tells the story about the life and death of Elisabeth Bathory. She died August 21st 1614, which explains the album title.

To make this album a success, they have recruited Snowy Shaw (Notre Dame, King Diamond, Therion, Mercyful Fate, Memento Mori) for the drums and for some vocal parts. Mats Leven (Krux, Therion, Yngwie) and Niklas Isfeldt (Dream Evil) are the 2 other singers you can hear on the album. The sporadic female vocals are filled in by a Swedish opera singer. To make the package complete, Elias Holmlid (Dragonland) was responsible for the keyboards. The music on this album is a combination of atmospheric parts, fast blast beating, progressive metal and dark doomy pieces. A combination of bands like Kamelot, Therion, Dimmu Borgir and Candlemass. Besides a lot of clean vocal parts you can expect the occasional grunt too. Andy LaRocque is responsible for the excellent production and mix.

If you are a fan of different styles of metal and lots of variety you will like this album. I advice you to check it out.
