The straight forward style in rock 'n' roll is never become outdated, somehow, and this band with the odd name 'Gene the Werewolf' is just such a band. Very much AC/DC, Krokus, The Darkness and little ounce of groove from Aerosmith maybe. Very easy, basic lyrics and a hoarse voice from the vocalist is typical for the genre. It is a 90% ballad free album, it's a party record and it swings really well. Nothing innovative at all, only joy, fervor and dedication to the straight hard sleaze/party rock. Gene the Werewolf from Pittsburgh released their debut album “Light Me Up” in 2009 and "Rock 'n' Roll Animal" is cooked using the same recipe. Happy, positive action music that I love to have in my ears when I working out. Excellent!

A sample from the album is on YouTube: 'I Only Wanna Rock N Roll' .

This is rock music like is should been played with the volume as high as possible and your beer drinking friends is in a party mood, just when your neighbors is out of town, and I guarantee: it will be a total success. Jon on vocals is a genuine front man and has a strong, clear rock voice and together with the sharp riffs from Drew on the guitar, results in that this album gets an score in the upper OK level. The tracks are real arena songs, where the choruses are easy to learn and if Buckcherry and similar bands can break out internationally, then there should also be room for Gene and his friends to find the same audience.

This rocks like hell!!

I can recommend this album to those who like sleaze rock and want it wrapped in a tight and cheerful party package.

The band:
Jon Belan 'Gene the Werewolf' – vocals, guitar
Drew Donegan – guitar
Aaron Mediate – keyboards
Nick Revak – drums
Tim Schulz – bass and vocals
