Yes, yes, we've seen and heard it before. Witch hunts, crying children, rattling chains, fires burning, persecution of women and all that. The same can be said of the music delivered by the popular Polish outfit fronted by the lovely Marta Gabriel; it's all tried and tested and has been so since circa 1980.

However, if you're in love with the genre or even just enjoy the occasional old school heavy metal trip like yours truly, Crystal Viper is definitely worth a listen. Iron Maiden, Priest, early Helloween, you get it all, served as a concept about the (un)holy Inquisition.

The riffs, as I said, we've heard before, but, damn, they work and worm their way into your ears. Marta's voice places her somewhere between heavy metal and power metal, and she does an excellent job.

For those who need an old-school fix done with conviction and heavy metal power. And for those who'd be curious to hear what it sounds like when Crystal Viper does a Vader cover (with Piotr from Vader doing guest vocal) - nice one!

The one song that should convince you: Child of the Flame.
