Imagine that you live in a country which could be covered by every sea wave – it is the dream of the surfer. Such a place exists! And in 2004 it was poured on! It was not the proper wave for surfing – it was a tsunami. It is clear that they will play thrash there. Otherwise the fact that the photo-wall papers of the bourgeois are often from the Maldives.

The admiration toward the classic thrash metal bands and the fury from the performance of the quintet reminds the devotion and the enthusiasm of the thrash formations from Latin America. But TORMENTA are distinctive with their precise sound and clearer as messages lyrics. The Islands have been attacked by different music waves from different directions. The music tsunami in reference to TORMENTA has come from America. The basic influences are from SEPULTURA and TESTAMENT and along with them could be heard the modern sound of the global metal culture. However the band withstands the position of the good old thrash as 80 % of the metal scene of the Maldives do.

The strong classic thrash riff supported by aggressive vocal is softened by melodic retreats and something unsaid (I do not know how they are doing with the censorship there). The quotes are not obtrusive – they are as a school.

The debut EP of the Maldivian TORMENTA (because there are other four bands with the same name) is a rather precious release for the thrash maniacs especially as a sound. Thanks to the promotion the wave of this “New Age Thrash Metal” is moving with 120 000 km per annum. Reaching Europe it did not loose its strength!
