Lake of Tears

Release date: 29 April, 2011
Playing time: 40:23

I have been a fan of Lake of Tears for many years; they have always managed to produce something new and interesting on their albums and on top of that are they a top performing band on the unfortunately rare occasions I have seen them live.

Illwill is a varied album and a development in a more heavy direction from their previous album, Moons and Mushrooms from 2007.  The tracks are still dark and gothic but we do also find progressive elements as well as elements of hard rock and thrash. All the influences aside this is still “dark rock” and we have a high quality album here. Even though all the tracks on the albums have their own distinct features the album still feels very coherent. The high quality of the album is also seen in a very suitable production and even down to details like the very fitting album cover.

It is my hope that with Illwill, Lake of Tears will get the recognition they have deserved, the recognition as one of the premier dark and gothic metal bands since the nineties. A band in the same league as for example classic material from Paradise Lost.
