Burzum has always been one of my favorite black metal bands. The primitive and monotone, merciless musical assault, drilling away in what I visualize as a sort of pleasurable trepanation, deeper and deeper into my brain, into my nerves, into my fucking soul! Still, Vikernes manages to do something rare in music: He feels. I don't care what sort of sick ideas these feelings are based on; this music is almost physical, nearly touchable, due to the hate, the sorrow, the love, pouring from my loudspeakers...

"Fallen" has all of the above characteristics - also prominently displayed on the classic albums "Aske", "Det som engang var" and "Filosofem". It is more atmospheric and thoughtful (a bizarre sort of extremely noisy silence) than the secondlast album "Belus". "Fallen" is more rounded, but requires more time to really fall into. Once there, however, you will not get out again soon...
