We Butter The Bread With Butter
Das Monster aus dem Schrank
Style: Electro/death/metalcore
Release date: November 21st 2008

I might as well be honest and tell you that I initially hated this CD.

It was too…bloody trendy. The whole packaging was just too teenage and annoying and pinkish and I’m an old fart who likes plain old skulls, blood, monsters, darkness and stuff on the cover, not the ‘we’ll-put-PhotoShop-at-random’ artwork. And the band name - what the fuck was that all about?!

Although you should never let the wrapping influence your judgement of the music, it does a bit.

Anyway, having now moved myself beyond the prejudice and first impressions, I have started actually listening to the audio output which, to say it least, is a cornucopia of music.

The two young Germans in WBTBWB have a modern take on music, that’s for sure. They plough into the same vein as British bands like Nato and Early Grave with all sorts of elements of extreme metal.

It’s a big mashup of emo, metalcore, grind, black metal and hints of melodic riffs here and there. Then with some cranky, electronic sounds and German lyrics added to the musical melting pot.

The rule is that there are no rules and for that I like what I hear. I mean…a band who make a version of Bob Marley’s I Shot the Sheriff in the totally disrespectful way WTBWB have done earns a horns up from yours truly!

This is worth a try for those who like heavy, but manic and tongue-in-cheek music. Not bad at all.
