I believe that metal music needs bands like British Ecthirion.

Why such a bold statement?

Well, because Ecthirion creates different music and pulls and bends the boundaries of what metal is. And not only that; they create music worth listening to.

The EP ‘Apocalyptic Visions’ is a marvellous blend of orchestral sounds, Spanish guitar, glockenspiel, black and death metal. It’s grandiose, it’s powerful, it’s all over the place!

Can’t help drawing parallels to Ecthirion’s countrymen Bal Sagoth who also have pushed a few boundaries for the extreme end of metal. Oh, yes, Ecthirion are that interesting and probably also condemned to a complete lack of commercial success!

The only drawback is a slightly out of key attempt at operatic vocals in the Anthem for the Brave, but that is easily forgiven as the rest of the soundscape is plain wonderful.

This is not one you should read about; get hold of it, sit back, open your mind, listen and enjoy!
