Do you like Morbid Angel? Angel Corpse? Yes? Then my guess is that you’ll like ‘Ixaxaar’, Nox’s first full-length.

The Dutch death metal outfit for the most part consists of members of ex-members of Severe Torture whom some of you might know. I, for one, don’t, but never mind – they clearly know how to spit out a blastbeat or twenty and throw some melody into those furious riffs in a way that would make Trey Azagthoth proud.

There’s little subtlety to be found here, just for-the-most-part tight death metal barrage, brutal grunts and howls and all that in the space of just 34 minutes. Nothing more is needed.

The cynic would say that there’s absolutely nothing new here and that the sound is a step back 15 years. Well, the cynic would be absolutely right - but ‘Ixaxaar’ still kicks arse!

Lovely piece of death metal, there!
