If you’re into Death Metal and not familiar with Monstrosity you must have been living in a cave since the early 90’s.  Monstrosity released their debut album in 1992 called “Imperial Doom” with original vocalist George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher (Cannibal Corpse) and since then they have provided us with quite good Death Metal.

Since their debut album there has been several line up changes and I was curious and a little anxious to hear the new growler Mike Hrubovcak (Vile, Divine Rapture) to hear if his vocals fits the music of Monstrosity… and he is doing one hell of job in my humble opinion. He is not just burping into the microphone no, no… you can actually here and understand what he “sings”. Great job!

Let’s be honest… I was a little disappointed at first with the first track, the title track “spiritual Apocalypse”, but as soon as track 2, “Firestorm” blasted out of my speakers, I was hooked. Everything is just great about that track… the drumming, the vocals and the guitar-melody lines, everything. One of the best Death Metal tracks ever in my opinion.

The rest of the tracks, except for track 9 “The Bloodline Horror” needed a few spins to grow but now, several listens later I’m knocked on my ass every time this album finds it’s way into my CD-player.

“Spiritual Apocalypse” is filled with fast Death Metal but sometimes they slow down a bit and get all groovy and more than heavy… but then they put the pedal to the metal again and spank your sorry little ass.

The production done by Lee Harrison and the band is powerful and heavy and this album is…together with Danish Death Metallers Spectral Mortuary’s “From Hate Incarnated” the Death Metal album to beat this year.
