Sometimes an AOR/Melodic Rock album hits me just where it hurts… and this album by Sunstorm featuring Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow, Deep Purple), Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69), Uwe Reitenauer on Guitars, Jochen Weyer on Keyboards and Chris Schmidt on Drums is such an album. Sunstorm has created some first class melodic Rock songs and grandiose ballads for the calmer moments in life. The songs are memorable and catchy and even that I prefer my music a bit harder; this album is surely a very pleasant surprise.

Some of the songs that are to be found on this album were in fact written a few years ago by Joe Lynn Turner for his second solo album but he fired the producer and the songs were put on ice for a while. Eventually Joe Lynn Turner teamed up with Jim Peterik and Dennis Ward… a couple of more songs was written and the rest is history.

The ability to combine catchiness and still gripping and deep melodies is one of the biggest assets of Sunstorm. The harder Rock songs on this album could very well have been found on Rainbow albums like; “Straight Between the Eyes” and “Bent out of Shape” and Sunstorm sure is making its way through the little grey cells of my brain... fans of Survivor, Journey, Rainbow or Melodic Rock in general should at least check this album out when it hit the stores later this month.
It’s worth it.
