Helstar is back! After numerous attempts James Rivera has finally managed to capture the old Helstar feeling onto a record. If you don't like both Helstar or James, then there's no point in reading on, because this is true old school metal all the way! After a short intro we start off with the title-track, that has all the good old trademarks, James' excellent voice, great twin guitar-work, hard pounding rhythms from Mike LePond (Symphony X) on bass and Rick Ward on drums. The twin guitar attack is taken care of by Eric Halpern (some might know him from his own band Z-Lot-Z) and Gregg Gill, and another metal veteran Jack Frost has produced this great album. In all we get 8 brilliant new metal tracks, a short intro, a cover-version of Accepts "Restless And Wild" and re-make of what many consider to the best Helstar track ever: "Run With The Pack". Not one single bad note is to be found on this great album, just take a listen to the brilliant intrumental "Distant Thunder" - a true riff-monster, or "Finding My Way", with it's nice acoustic intro, but don't be fooled by this because it turns into a true Accept kind of monster. I think it's refreshing to hear a band that manage to be true to their roots and getting away with it like Distant Thunder do on this great album! I can only recommend this old school metal album to all metal fans out there - it rocks ...!!! Recommended tracks: "I Welcome The End", "Finding My Way" and "Run With The Pack" |
