Dark, darkest, Defying – the new videoclip

On the 16th of October Defying – a band from Olsztyn presented a music video to their song The Sunlight Recedes. The clip, inspired by Rafał Wojaczek’s poetry is a hybrid of a lyric and music video.

The Sunlight Recedes comes from a 2016 EP The Splinter of Light We Misread. 4 songs, including a cover of New Dawn Fades by Joy Division, can be found on the self-released album. Just like with their previous release, the band combined a variety of genres – from post and prog metal to sludge and black metal.

Music on The Splinter… is very dark and filthy, with lyrics inspired by the works of Polish exiled poets, mainly Rafał Wojaczek. – explain members of the band.

“His poetry deals with love, death, fascination with femininity and carnality, mainly within the esthetic of turpism. In Wojaczek’s works, especially his older pieces, erotism and sexuality is combined with death; the lyrical subject talks about pain, feelings of isolation, rebellion against the hypocrisy of the world and society, at the same time thoroughly analysing the depths of the human soul. His poetry expresses two dangers: an identity crisis caused by the destruction of personality and the endangerment of existence caused by the conflict between an individual and the world. Our goal was to capture this dualism” – summarise the musicians.

The music video was written, directed and edited by the band’s drummer Tomasz Semeniuk. Jakub Korzunowicz, founder of the TeArt- The Theatre of Artistic Education played the main part. Members of the band and Barbara Sidor, who can be seen on the photos from The Splinter…, are present in the video as well.
