Ever wanted to find out what inspired a particular song?

Was it based on personal experience or simply passive observation?

What happened in the recording studio or on stage to make one song sound different from the rest?

These are just some of the question bands and musicians attempt to answer in Line 'em Up - the newest page of The Power Of Metal.Dk.

This is where your favourite bands comment on their albums, track by track, because as someone once said, “Ideas are the building blocks of ideas”.

Enjoy!

Here’s a chance for you to tell our readers about your new album “Symphony of Souls”.

But could you please start off by introducing the readers to Crow7?

CROW7 – Thanks for the possibility to introduce our band to the readers of PowerMetal. The appearance of CROW7 is more Gothic but the music is a mix between Hard Rock and Melodic Metal with influence of the 80’s rock style. We call our personal music style ProMeRo (Progressive Metal Rock). Our message is well-defined in artist names and styling. We use the philosophies of good and evil, light and dark are closely related and that also the theory that one can’t exist without the other. Even in our concerts we try to take our fans on a magical, mysterious journey in time and space.

And now onto “Symphony of Souls”… track-by-track, what inspired you, what topics are you dealing with, what do you want to express within the songs etc.

01. Symphony of Souls

Crow7 – All the music of the album “Symphony Of Souls” was composed first, before we wrote the lyrics.

The song “Symphony Of Souls” is very orchestral and sounds to us like a symphony. We thought about the reaper, walking the earth, trying to find the lost stray souls and send them to heaven. Each soul is a note, so each soul that was send on their way to heaven leaves a sound that finally will become a never ending symphony in memory of life.

02. Street of Slaver

Crow7 – We all are slaves in some way. We bow ourselves to money, consume, luxury, jobs, drugs and many other things that we think are necessary for our life and for our bliss. Sometimes we don’t think about the things that we truly need and the luck and freedom of our souls can’t be bought.

03. Shiva Sigh

Crow7 – Going back into time and space, where the gods reign the world and spread their knowledge and wisdom to humanity. We want to remember that we lost a lot of wisdom as time passed and that we should reflect the words they told us in the past. As you may listen to the wind you can hear the gods sigh to learn from our mistakes.

04. The Guide

Crow7 – It is a tale of the world in between life and death. What would you do if you had to die and you walked into the light together with your guardian angel, but you have so many things to clear in your live and therefore can’t leave your body yet? Wouldn’t you beg for more time?

05. Kingdom of Calm

Crow7 – The story of this song is about a man, who has lost his beloved wife and how he deals with his loss. How he continues his life and how everything around him isn’t the same anymore. It is calm and empty. So he is walking through his “kingdom of calm”.

06. Spawn of Evil

Crow7 – Well we’re diving into the fantasy world, talking about a vampire, creeping through a village and killing people for blood. He frightens the people up to a point at which they start to hunting him.

07. Dirty Lies

Crow7 – It is a song about an rich old lady who is sitting in her wonderful house, without any friends or family to take care of her. She has made a lot of mistakes in her younger years, when all she cared about were success and money. Nobody was good enough for her and she forgot to care about her friends. The moral of the story is to make friends in time – real friends, and doing the right things in your life.

08. Virtual Reality

Crow7 – It is an evil in our days that a lot of people start to live their life in a virtual reality. Being different people causes them to feel like their real life isn’t good enough, and so they are dismissed or just too shy to find friends. They forget about, how wonderful the real life could be and that you don’t need to hide yourself behind an avatar. The real life is the hardest challenge ever, harder than any computer game, but it is worth playing it. So go out and watch the world through your eyes and be a part of it.

09. Great Spirit

Crow7 – Corbin is inspired by the beliefs and wisdom of the native Americans. They lived in line with nature, cared about their environment and left us a lot of wisdom within the quotations of the big chiefs. We should care about the world, instead of letting her die, and care about the great spirit who is in all things on earth.

10. Winter Breeze

Crow7 – It is not only a winter song. The winter can also be in your heart and freeze your soul if your dreams are unfulfilled and you are doing things you don’t want to do. Living a life you don’t feel free in will make your hopes and dreams fade away.

11. Breed of Crime

Crow7 – Yes we love fantasy stories, that’s why we dedicated this song to another mystical creature of the night – the werewolf. Creating a creature that morphs into his bestial shape of a blood hunting wolf who kills bad and evil humans, and purges the mad things in the world.

12. Ocean of Fire

Crow7 – This song could  have had the subtitle: “Shit happens if the hormones take control”. A man wakes up in the desert, totally alone in the glowing heat. Cursed to die of thirst because he desired an Arab beauty.

13. Winner of the Quest

Crow7 – We believe in angels that walk on earth. We also believe in fallen angels walking the earth, causing trouble and trying to get us to the dark side. This song is dealing about an angel from heaven, sent to earth to fight against the fallen kinds. A hard quest to handle.

14. The Final Ride

Crow7 – We all love our bikes, riding along the highways and enjoying freedom. We dedicated this song to a guy who died on his ride. But he won’t stop, because his love belongs to the bike, so he continues his ride on the other side. We didn’t think about the Ghostrider, but the song fits perfect to the trailer of Part 2.

15. Where Do We Go Now

CROW7 – During the European tour our manager got the message that a friend of her commited suicide. She didn’t talk about it much but wrote a text which fits the sound of the song perfectly. We all have our opinion about suicide and we talked for a long time before we finally decided to put it on the album. It is not an easy topic but it happens more often in these dark times, so we found it necessary to call attention.

Tell us a bit about the artwork – who made it etc. and how important do you feel it is to have a cool artwork?

Crow7 – The artwork is made by Corbin Eved. Sure it is important that the artwork fits the music and the stories that are told on the album. It needs to show a picture of it and hopefully we have managed to combine both.

Any last words you want to round this interview off with?

Crow7 – We hope that we could give you an impression of our music and what it is about. We would appreciate your feedback on Facebook or on our website www.crow7.de. Hopefully we can play in Denmark soon and meet our fans there in person. Thanks for the interview and all the best wishes to you.
