What started out as a tiny, new festival in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, has grown into a true event. Over the course of ten years, COPENHELL has become a force to be reckoned with, occupying the hearts and minds of thousands of organisers, volunteers and festival-goers for almost a whole week. In 2010, there were 4.000 visitors to the young festival. This year, 27.000 people from primarily Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia have bought a ticket, the greatest number ever.
The Wednesday of the Copenhell week is the warm-up day. This year, your Power Of Metal.dk writers have to skip Wednesday for work reasons, thereby missing death metal stalwarts IMMOLATION, prog mongers KATATONIA, desert rockers EAGLES OF DEATH METAL and a couple of other names. So be it. All the more reason to look forward the first festival day proper and the mixed bag of treats we’re in for.
From doom to power metal, 90s grunge rock, prog, metalcore and death metal, the billing is varied, and it turns out that we’re in for both nice surprises and disappointments during the Thursday of Copenhell 2019. The red carpet has been rolled out with DEMONS & WIZARDS, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, SLASH, HALESTORM, TOOL and VLTIMAS to name the most prominent names.
Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be publishing our impressions from COPENHELL 2019. We hope you’ll enjoy the reports.
