From the deafening silence of sloughy land, under the heavy smoke of Amsterdam and right next to where massive flying machines find their temporary home, Semistereo emerged.
Their objective: to enrich the broad musical universe with mind blowing tunes. And their efforts have not been left unnoticed: Semistereo has grown into an impressive band with 3 critically acclaimed full length albums to its name. Semistereo absorbs its surroundings, combines the metropolitan structures with the passionate expansiveness of the Dutch Polder, translating this to sound and resulting in what can best be described as a refreshing crossover between Post and Progressive Rock.
Their songs are constructed from various elements: strong melodies, organic grooves, atmospheric soundscapes and biting voluminous eruptions. Like a Japanese master swordsmith forges a “Saijo Owazamono” layer by layer … Semistereo is at times whimsical and unpredictable, but always “in your face”. In their lyrics, themes like social alienation and the horrors of technological progress are not shunned. Vocalist Paul Glandorf (A Day’s Work, Ayreon), guitarists Martijn Weyburg (A Day’s Work) and Frank Weijers (SaltyCheek, Frappant), drummer Marcel van de Graaf (Tree Funk Concept) and new bassplayer Massimo Mastrangeli (Art Against Agony) make up Semistereo. And it is more than just 5 people making music together.
it’s a collective that has been tried and tested on stages and festivals at home and abroad, such as Prog Power Europe, Mixtream, the Boerderij Zoetermeer and Paradiso Amsterdam. In the media the band is compared with, among others, Oceansize, Karnivool, Deftones and A Perfect Circle.
In 2018 Semistereo will hit the studio to record album no 4. The yet untitled album will be released through Freia Music.
