When a reviewer initially opens up an Electronic Press Kit (EPK) for a Death Metal band one never really knows what to expect, so, needless to say when I saw Infected Dead pop up on the review list I jumped on that train as quick as I could! As I reached the second paragraph of the press release I was a bit curious to say the least. Seeing a band describe their sound as, “Specializing in infectious, neck-snapping riffs, virtuoso solos and insane drums, they have been devastating venues all over the south of England throughout 2017.” seemed to be a bold statement.
Infected Dead have been able to back that statement up with the upcoming release of their latest EP “Archaic Malevolence” due out December 8th, 2017 via Hostile Media©. Winners of Metal 2 the Masses and appearing at Bloodstock Open Air this summer has helped catapult Infected Dead and their latest EP onto the forefront of Death Metal in the UK. With “Archaic Malevolence” we get six tracks of of visceral, non-stop, in your face metal influenced by the likes of Aborted and The Black Dahlia Murder as well as Lovecraftian cosmic horror. Dark metal sickness and utter metal brutality all wrapped up in a twenty seven minute EP.
Invocation of Unspeakable Gods slows the pace and showcases some extremely solid vocals, out of this world cymbal work from the pilots seat behind the kit and rough, rigid and bright growling axes that set this track a cut above the rest. /raVen/
“Archaic Malevolence” is straight filthy out of the gates! With Book of Dead Names, a fifty five second introduction into what to expect in the Lovecraftian interpreted darkenss that is Infected Dead. Archaic Malevolence, the title track, and Resurrectionist bring bone jarring beats as well as plunging and soaring riffs throughout. Invocation of Unspeakable Gods slows the pace and showcases some extremely solid vocals, out of this world cymbal work from the pilots seat behind the kit and rough, rigid and bright growling axes that set this track a cut above the rest. Forced Existence picks up right where we left off with the raging drums and plunging riffs lending a solid balance to the final track, Samsara, where some dark metal roots mixed with some progressive axes make this track the most interesting artisticly for the listener. The abrupt stop and pick up at the 2:06 mark transitions this track blissfully to more bloody axe fingering showcasing this bands unique talents and influences.
Infected Dead, staying true to their word, have pushed themseves technically and creatively. The technical mastery, vocal ability, axemen artistry and ferocity behind the kit solidifies the fact that Lou, Alex, Chris, Nathan and Martin have poured every ounce of blackness into this EP. Your ears deserve the death offered by Infected Dead with “Archaic Malevolence” touching the tip of true insanity at just £4.99! (Thats $6.59 for you nonconformist Americans like me.)
