Since the first Entombed, Grave and Dismember albums,
I'm a huge fan of the old
school Swedish D-beat death metal. Besides the almost swinging drum patterns,
I
am absolutely in love with the sound of the guitar riffs. Bands like Bloodbath, Paganizer and this Entrails still carry on the flag of the genre.
Entrails was already formed in the early
90s, but never got solid ground
under their feet and were put on a hold for quite some time. In 2008, Jimmy
Lundqvist found
the
time to resurrect the band and finally,
two demos were
recorded. After that,
a few albums were recorded and with this 'Obliteration',
they release their fourth full-length studio album. Under the professional hands
and eye of Dan Swanö,
it was mixed and mastered and due to the excellent written
songs,
it is a real hammer.
The
first song starts fast and very aggressive and immediately shows what to expect
from the entire album. "Epitome of Death" is slower, but with the groovy beat
typical for the genre and a part reminding of Edge of Sanity towards the end of
the song. "Beyond the Flesh" is a very variable song with a fast opening, some
slower melodic parts varied with high speed patterns. The next songs are all
suffused with old Entombed and Dismember sauce and
I enjoy them like honey by a
bear. That they don't only rule on
CD, I experienced twice last year. I saw the
band on stage at the Stonehenge festival in Steenwijk and last month at the
Eggbangers Ball
in Leeuwarden. I really enjoyed the band's
music and they
surely can deliver live
as well.
I
advice all Dismember, Grave, Entombed , Unleashed, Bloodbath or let me say old
school Swedish death metal addicts to check this out.
