Third album released by the important
Norwegian label Indie Recordings, here is Dunderbeist's sixth
achievement in only seven years of existence. Hyklere [Hypocrites]
is a mid-tempo heavy record with stoner influences and a jazzy, progressive,
laid-back mood. Quite a contrast from what I've heard form them live the two
times I saw them in their native Norway.
This is music that will appeal to a wide metal audience.
This time Dunderbeist says all in Norwegian. «Many people
easily express sentecnes like «I am just being myself». But who are truly so?»
reads the band's reflection and inspiration to the new album.
The texts of Hyklere are obviously important, so you will lose a
dimension, not knowing Norwegian. However, they come a long way with their
greatly varied energy and passionate singing throughout the record, in what in
time can happen to be called Dunderbeist style.
A band that has risen fast lately, touring more, among
others playing WOA, GMM and Inferno Metal Festival.
Whether their linguistic strategy will pay off or not, might not be a crucial
question to the band's evolution. If they only keep cultivating their
specificities and influences, Dunderbeist
is likely to come a long way.
With Hyklere, Dunderbeist inscribe
themselves in a lineage of influential bands of Norwegian language.
Absolutely worth checking out. Touring Norway as we speak.
