This
is the 8th studio album from this Swiss melodic rock
band. The album is produced, mixed and mastered by Stefan Kaufmann at ROXX
Studio in Solingen and the cover artwork designed by Thomas Ewerhard. There is a
guest appearance by Battle Beast's Noora Louhimo on the duet "Eye To Eye" and
backing vocals on "Mayday". Besides the production, Stefan Kaufmann plays
accoustic guitar on "Memory Run" and some backing vocals on "Gods Of Rock".
I
have some mixed feelings about this album, there are some nice rather heavy
songs like "Eye to Eye", "Balls of Steel", "Rock of Life", "Antidote" and "Liferider",
but also a few too many average tracks with refrains that are too cliché and in
which the riffs are average and far from original. A song like "Gods of
Rock" is the biggest example for that. A cliché riff, cliché lyrics and a too
cheesy sing a long refrain. With "Bleeding" and "Memory
Run" there are 2 ballads which of course can't miss on a hardrock album. For me
the refrains of most of the songs are a little too much to sing a long with, but
if you like that, this is a good album.
Fans of recognizable a bit sleezy melodic
hardrock with rather cliché refrains should certainly take a listen. I think
they will give this album an easy 20 points more than I did above. Fans of
Gotthard, Vengeance and stuff like that will certainly know what to do with this
new album 'Liferider'. As an extra on the digipak you find cover versions of Dio
and Black Sabbath and "Not Like You" is more than just a 'we had some room
left ' song.
