It's really hard to judge a new band when all you have is a single with one regular song and a cover-version. But it's not like we are dealing with newcomers or strangers because the guys behind the name Crossnail hides the same guys who had a good thing running in Teodor Tuff, a very promising Norwegian progressive metal band.

But a change of direction and approach lead to a name change as well, I guess, and on this single they have left the progressive parts out and have focused on a strong melody line and have hired Elize Ryd (Amaranthe) to handle the female voice on the new song. The cover-version is a fine take on Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know", which is given a harder edge and it actually works.

I, for one, am looking forward to the full-length album, which is due in May, because this new song sounds good and hopefully the rest is at least up to par with this song. For melodic metal fans, fans of Teodor Tuff with a soft spot for melodic metal might give this one a chance, the hardcore progressive metal fans might be best advised to steer clear of Crossnail.
