Jeremy Brunner is the founder/guitarist
of this new American rock project, and he is a new
name to
me. He seems to have a love for catchy
riffs, insightful lyrics and huge
choruses. Some of the better musicians in
Los Angeles have joined in including
bassist James LoMenzo from White Lion,
singer Keith St. John from Montrose,
Burning Rain and this project
hard-hitting drummer Fred Fischer from
Midline.
I'm very familiar with the singer;
Keith St. John from all amazing albums
by Burning Rain and he is actually one
of my favourite hard rock vocalists.
When he got opportunity to sing all
these well written songs and along with
these talented, professional guys to
play together with, he grows into a giant
vocalist. The blend of the lovely 80's
steaming hair rock songs and the
charming AOR hooks, creates some warm,
positive feel-good emotions.
This US project is a sensational
debut from Jeremy, a new hard rock
personality. Mr Brunner's love and fire
for the melodic hard rock crawls out
through the speakers and grabs my spine.
I hear Night Ranger, Warrant, White
Lion, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Whitesnake
and Mötley Crüe. After several spins of
'Get Your Rock On', I have a bunch of
new favourites I return to over and
over again. The three opening songs;
'Love’s A Bitch', 'Get Your Rock On' and 'Steppin' On
the Block' is the perfect way
to open an album. 100% guitar fronted
American rock 'n' roll!
The shiny ballad 'Baby Bye Bye'
is one of the most sparkling gems on the
disc. 'California' is the first single
off the album and it is a radio friendly song
and one of the most adapted tracks for the US market. Not my favourite song
really. I prefer songs like; 'Turn the Noize Down',
'Rattlesnake Eyes' and the
fine track 'Love Breaks the Fool'.
A mega strong debut from X-Drive and I'm
confused how all the American record companies
missed this project. I'm very pleased that Frontiers
Records has the guts to release all these new
projects/bands and with X-Drive they
drew a winning ticket.
Thanks for the ride X-Drive!
