The Pretty Reckless is an
American alternative metal/hard rock
band from New York City. 'Going To Hell'
is their second studio production, the
debut album 'Light Me Up' was released
in 2010. Taylor Momsen, the vocalist is
an American actress (in the television
series Gossip Girl), musician, and
model. She is a young and very beautiful
girl with a clear, strong rock n roll
voice with a lot of attitude.
The Pretty Reckless is playing more of
the alternative rock/metal genre than an
I expected after my previews on Youtube: the quite daring and challenging music
videos of 'Heaven Knows' and 'Going To
Hell'. Ms Momsen seems to dislike too wear to
much clothes in the videos...
I understand why they choose these two
songs, because they are the 2 best
tracks on the entire album. Sharp guitar
riffing and catchy rhythms makes me
excited and I feel the positive energy
coming abounding over me. Another good
song is 'Why'd You Bring Shotgun' with
groovy rhythms, similar to Marlyn
Manson's music style. The opening track
'Follow Me Down' is a heavy and epic
metal song with coarse and vigorous
vocals from Taylor. 'Sweet Things' is an
various tempo track with quite a lot of
guitar goodies actually. Taylor does a
very strong and impressive vocal
performance in this song, which is another
diverse track.
I skip the 'weaker' songs in the
middle of the tracklist and focus on
'Absolution', which is a quite solid rock
song with fabulous vocals from Taylor.
'Fucked Up World' is a straight forward
rock 'n' roll song with classic rock
marks. The closing song 'Waiting for a
Friend' is a down tempo ballad, which is
calm, quiet ending of their nice album
'Going To Hell'.
My overall score is in the OK
level. No future masterpiece, but a
solid musical creation is my
impression.
If you are a fan of the American
alternative rock music, this is a good
investment. Still doubtful or are you
curious?
