Saille is a black metal band from Belgium
and their latest "Eldritch" marks their 3rd full-length release. The
theme of the album is vastly influenced by classic horror literature, a
great deal of which were derived from the works of H.P. Lovecraft. The
setting as well as spoken parts within the album reveals that there is
an epic being told.From my
standpoint Saille evolved since Ritu, its predecessor. Although Ritu is
a more powerful album with better compositions for the most part, one
must acknowledge the fact that the production was crafted and polished a
little better in "Eldritch". This album contains long structures, most
of which proceed to become 6 to 7 minutes in length. The sound depicts a
horrific theme which possesses just the right dark atmosphere to bear
out their theme and is quite consistent with the always present creepy
atmosphere in each song that makes the album flow very well. The eerie
sounds were accomplished with the presence of acoustic guitar, cello,
trumpet, violin and keyboards. At times they have progressive riffs
and more than a few bits of lead on the guitar which allots an
incredibly melodic arrangement. The deliverance of the drums and vocals
were no object of ridicule here; they intensified the album to sound and
appear more brutal.
After listening to "Eldritch" I have to
say that this review is a disapproving one. The end result is that I
became uninterested with the album - lengthy songs with nothing
spectacular to offer. It sounded very promising at first but each song
just mirrored each previous song as the album progressed, as if
listening to the same piece over and over again. So much potential to be
great but it did not cut it for me.
