This album was produced by
Michael Voss (Michael Schenker, Udo
Lindenberg, etc) and some of the
greatest international song writers have
written the tracks for Linda & The Punch's debut album. They are Jeff
Franzel (Taylor Dayne, NSync, Chuck
Wicks), Steve McEwan (Robbie Willams,
Foreigner, Eminem, James Blunt, Roger
Daltrey), Herman Rarebell (Scorpions) and
Tommy Denander (Paul Stanley, Swedish
Teen Idol).
The vocalist Linda is a 21 years old
female singer that has a voice like Pat Benatar or Pink
and this is music in the light weight division of the Hard
Rock genre. I use to call this power
pop/rock. Very nice melodies and magnificent vocals. Lightweight rock n roll
without clout, hardness, and potency
with quite easy going choruses. I have
difficulties with this in matter of fact.
There is a certain lack of heavy guitar hooks,
no driven drumming or anything extra on top of
Linda's nice and clean singing voice. The songs are all in the comfort zone and
I've a hard time to sort them out,
because many songs sounds similar.
But, there are a few tracks
which attract me. 'Nothing of Anything'
has a heavier sound and force that woke
me up. 'Looking Out for Number One' is
another song with something challenging
in the rhythms and my right leg starts to
move up and down. The catchy 'Kill the
Lights' with some nice string works from
Ralf, is the third song, which will be
moved into my "save folder".
The albums closes with a cover
of Patti Smith's monster hit 'Because
the night'. If you are a fan of female
fronted rock n roll and doesn't want a
heavy and harsh sound, this is maybe
something to check out. Not a bad album, but
not really in my taste...
