Black Snow is the second album
from the Italian/American alternative
metal band KLOGR (pronounced Kay
- log - are). The band's name is a
reference to a renowned psychophysical
law (S = K log R), which was developed in
the 19th century by Weber and Fechner;
the law is related to the changes in
human perception according to different
types of stimuli.
I read on their fan-page that;
'the lyrics of the 12 tracks on 'Black
Snow' are about a broken world, where a
prompt reaction is mandatory and there's
no room for hesitation, faking or
excuses'. 'Black Snow' is a powerful work
of raw rage, with room for beautiful
melodies and melancholic ballads such as
'Heart Breathing' and 'Ambergris (Whale
Song)'. Opening track 'Zero Tolerance'
was written in support of the
conservation of sea wildlife
organization Sea Shepherd and the title is the
name of one of their missions. KLOGR is playing a quite modern metal
with mostly up-tempo tracks and very
aggressive drumming.
The band is led by Gabriele
"Rusty" Rustichelli (producer at
ZetaFactory Studios) and is an excellent
singer for this genre. I'm personally
not a big fan of this alternative metal
genre, but KLOGR have some tracks that I
find quite interesting. The opening song
'Zero Tolerance' is a real punch in the
groin with a ton of energy and one
helluva a groove. A quite nice guitar
solo shines also in the middle of the
song. The heavy 'Refuge' is a groovy
melodic metal track with sharp guitars. KLOGR has three guitarists and it
doesn't feel that way, because it gets
hollow in some of the tracks. Maybe it's
the production?, but with 3 string
benders it usually sounds fatter and
more solid. Rusty's vocals is throughout
the tracks the biggest benefit of the
band. I believe that this band have a
bright future and 'Black Snow' is
another step up on the ladder to the bigger
scenes. Their musical journey doesn't
stop with this album.
They will tour together with the
American alternative metal band Sprong
in Europe this spring and if you are
interested of this alternative metal
genre, then this might be something to
check out.
