Progressive metal/rock band Kirk from Basel, Switzerland is a new acquaintance to me and surprises me with very melodic melodies in a quite heavy surrounding, diverse tempos and marvelous drum-action. Razor sharp guitars and excellent vocals grab my interest directly in the very first spin and after several rounds together, this album has grown into a concrete and solid metal album.

The opening songs 'Devil's Claw', 'Supersonic Speed' and the title track 'Masquerade' are three shining musical gems that are in Dream Theatre standards (world class). I really love the strong keyboard work on the album and it gives Kirk a thicker and fatter sound. In my favourite track, the melodic 'Nothing Else But Lies' they do put everything together, and the result is a majestic song. 'Time' is also a great song, which goes in a much higher pace and is almost a power metal song. Another dazzling track is the epic 'The End of the Universe', which is an progressive metal tune with stunning guitars and strong vocals from Thomi Raush.

Kirk was formed back in 2000 and 'Masquerade' is only their second album. I really hope that they can produce more frequently in the future, because it has been a very, very positive journey.

Mature melodic metal with progressive influences is my overall impression and if you like Queensr˙che with a touch from Dream Theater, you will love this album
