Khaøs is an Swiss/American
band featuring Chandler Mogel on
vocals, Mark Rossi on guitar, Nic
Angileri on bass and Trevor Franklin
on drums. Khaøs is a project on a
global scale, involving two
continents, America and Europe, and
going possibly beyond. Their members
have never actually played together
in the same room. This came together
thanks to the internet. It was an
idea they wanted to put to the test.
I get Alter Bridge and the new Slash
album in my head when I listen to
'Risen'. Strong vocals and rigid
hard guitars in various rock styles.
They range from melodic hard rock
to modern American rock/metal.
They
make a flying start with a
cannonball track 'After the Silence'
with charming pace and beautiful
vocals. 'Crisis Factor' is more in
the modern rock style with Chandler's
strong vocals. It took me several
spins until I got it; he sings
almost similar as Europe's Joey
Tempest!! 'Exalted' is a calm and
smooth ballad. More in the dusty,
garage rock style are they
delivering in 'Loaded Question'. The
middle songs leave me untouched and
aren't really my kind of music.
Except 'Ride the Chain', which is a
funny little gem actually. 'Static
Windows' is a half groovy tune with
a melodic chorus. 'As Far as We Go' is
a shining down-tempo song, which grabs
my spine.
'Risen'
is closing with the epic and
powerful song 'The Breathing Room'.
'Khaøs' is a child of the new
technology and I ask myself; Is this
the future of music? Musicians who
send the files over the seas and
everything is mixed somewhere else.
Bands as we know it today are only
for the live shows. Studio line-ups
are something else. I don't know, I
grew up with rock bands being a band of
brothers drove them and friendship and a common desire to
success together made them do it.
Anyhow, this
isn't a future masterpiece, just a solid hard rock
album with some highs and some fillers. The rate
stays at the OK level.
