Like we are used to from Dani Filth (with Cradle of Filth) the album will be
released on Halloween and in between two Cradle of Filth albums he joined the band of Daniel
Finch and together they form the foundation of this album. This time no
theatrical black metal, but a rather groovy metal album with dark elements.
The first tunes of "Summer Arteries" might delude you starting with accoustic
guitars and a disco rhytmn, but after that you hear the elements that form this
albums style. Most of the songs are based on heavy groovy guitar riffing, with
very dark (Horror) elements, which of course is a style Dani is used to. Songs
with a gothic touch combined with orchestral, theatrical and epic parts. Dani
Filth's voice is still very recognizable of course, but he also sounds a bit
different than on the Cradle of Filth albums. Not that he has developed as a real
singer, he still speaks, screams, bleeps and mumbles throughout the songs, but
that creates the dark atmosphere on the album. Besides orchestral parts in Epica
style, some Rammstein rhymns and even real classic metal elements in the song
"Staring in My Heart" you can speak of a rather original album based on groove
and dark elements. And do I hear a ukelele in "Mother Kali"? Perhaps not all the
songs are already real top written tracks, but there sure aren't any blunders.
With members leaving and joining Cradle of Filth faster than I change my
underwear, the new Cradle of Filth album must be very good otherwise Devilment
might/will
overtake them. If this band is going to support this new album with good live
gigs (the gigs of Cradle of Filth are not the best I've seen) and perhaps a second
even better album will be released, I think they can get far. This is an album
with a rather unique style, but you have to like the singing style of Dani (you
either
love it or hate it) and due to the excellent musicians this 'The Great and
Secret Show' turns out to be above average.
