'The Land of New Hope' is a
symphonic metal opera with an impressive line up: The Finnish metal guru Timo Tolkki (Stratovarius) is back with the first album in a planned metal trilogy. Timo's brainchild Avalon is a thrilling journey into another world and into another timeline. The story takes place in a future year 2055 when most cities by natural disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis are either destroyed or have been covered by water. There are no communications and the infrastructure has been destroyed. A small group of survivors go off to find the holy place "The Land of New Hope" as mentioned in the stories and talked about for decades. On the journey there, they meet a seer who guides them. She says you got to have a pure heart if the guards there to let them pass. The idea was to have a magniloquent metal / rock opera with some cinematic orchestrations to bring back the Stratovarius original sound in a more symphonic and grandiose fashion. With an impressive musical line-up and a great song writer, who put his heart and soul into something this amazing can't fail. It doesn't either, no this is one of the strongest symphonic power metal albums I've heard in a long time. Brilliant choices of vocalists and three! keyboard giants. Timo is an awesome guitar player and together with his dream team, this is something extra to consume. Excellent vocal placement in the respective tracks and with the very talented Elize Ryd from Amaranthe, she is perfect as the central figure in the story. This is a high quality piece of art and contains bombastic, powerful melodies and together with amazing artistic craftsmanship. This is a fantasy epos that can be a classic metal symphonic, imagine Magnum dressed in metal. All Stratovarius and Avantasia fans have something check out, and this is a highly recommended purchase. |
