Right, something happened to The Resistance since they released the EP 'Rise From Treason' not so long ago. I wasn't too impressed with Jesper Strömblad's (formerly In Flames) new initiative; a hardcore/metalcore outfit was what I considered it to be. I was downright disappointed.

But, lo and behold, the EP must have been some sort of trial version, because the debut album proper is so much more interesting!

The hardcore element is still very strongly represented, but the dosage is different, and there's so much more Entombed in the sound now. Which is a good thing. If you listen to the first track, Clearing the Slate, there's a hint of the kind of riffing that you'd typically hear from Amon Amarth. The same in My Madness. With The Serpent King even allows to let it shine through what he did so brilliantly in his former band! Again; this is good. Oh, and add a little bit of Slayer too.

For me, this release is so much sharper and interesting than the EP. All of a sudden, The Resistance is a way more promising outfit than first indicated. Good stuff!
