The Jokers from England is here with their second album. The debut album 'The Big Rock 'n' Roll Show' was released in 2009. The Jokers delivers a "back to basic", blues influenced vintage hard rock. Wane Parry sings terrific and uplifting throughout the album. Big doses of AC/DC, Fozzy, Zeppelin and Aerosmith make this quite easy to like. No complicated guitar solos or any technical frills or so, just plain straight forward classic hard rock. They have succeed in blending the old-school hard rock from the 70's with a modern twist to it. The excellent opening track 'Silver City' is a killer song with deep, heavy bass playing and sharp guitar riffs. The title track is a faster song with some small nice delicacies from Paul Hurst; a lot of AC/DC polish in that tune. The strongest song on 'Rock 'n' Roll Is Alive' is the beautiful track 'Radio', where Wane Parry impresses on me with his incredible voice. 'Night Driver' is a party rock track with high-octane rock n roll. I fell in love with the slow, sensitive and bluesy song 'Find My Way Home' with the best guitars on the disc and the biggest heart and soul. Another strong ballad is 'Bring Your Love Back to Me' and this is one of my favourite tunes on the album. The album closes with a classic hard rock track 'Dr. Rock Head'. Well, after several spins with The Jokers my heart says: GREAT STUFF!, but my boring brain says 'heard this many times before', so my overall score stays at the OK level. If you want some cool vintage hard rock in a new package, this is a nice purchase for you. Line-up: |
