Among your good resolutions for 2013, you have decided to learn French. Not the "Oh là là!" or the "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?" way, but the gory way, with the sick but friendly trio Savage Annihilation. Formed in 2002 with musicians from Defecal of Gerbe (Goregrind) and Brennkelt (Black Metal), Savage Annihilation released the demo “Death in Progress” two years later. A split CD followed in 2008 (with Decrepify (US), Visceral (Chile) and Ad Nauseum (France)). The band has built a solid live experience in Europe through all these years. Kaotoxin info-sheet recommends this first full-length CD for fans of (early) Morbid Angel, (early) Krisiun, (early) Sepultura. Many "early" here, but these songs do not sound old-fashioned. They are brutal of course, gripping around your throat, kicking your head, but so varied, always in motion, always changing, with well-placed guitar soli, tempi from fast as a shark to heavy as osmium: it is a pleasure to listen to these pieces for baby Cthonians. I have not seen Saw movies or 3D Piranha: I am too old for that funny s…t. But I admit I enjoyed Planet Terror and I bought Event Horizon in blu-ray especially for the "Liberate Tute Me Ex Inferis" scene… in slow motion of course. "Cannibalisme, hérésie et autres sauvageries" atmosphere and lyrics are a kind of tribute to these B-horror movies and splatter films. For the music, Savage Annihilation deserves an A. Order the CD right now, with the lyrics on the booklet for the French lessons I was talking about… | ||||||||||||||||||
