Melodic hard rock from Russia? Reds'Cool is from St. Petersburg and charges with a nice stack of songs of high quality rock n roll. Razor sharp guitars that easily cut through my ear canals and with a rock singer, who has a clean, high pitch voice and a very wide range. Sounds like something very nice to listen to? It is, but there is little that can be refined in both power and energy departments. Technically, they are very well educated and the band members are no youngsters, who have been plucked up from the street either. They have influences from classic hard rock bands like Rainbow, Whitesnake, Gotthard, Motley Crue, Poison, Dokken and so on. Their debut album "Attraction" was released in 2011 and this is their follow up disc; called 'Bad Story'. 'Bad Story' opens with 'Bite' and 'Hey You' and they are two of the strongest tunes with lots of influences from the 80's classic hard rock. The slow song 'Confession' is one of the top tracks on ' Bad Story', very melodic and gentle with strong vocals from Roman. Another song worth some extra credits is 'You Must Go' with stunning guitars and groovy rhythms. It's hard to hear the Russian roots in Reds'Cool, because this sounds American, west coast style and I really like to listen to this album over and over. It's not like there is anything extraordinary or something new to their music. Just a damn good hard rock album in the middle lane of the highway. Not too fast or too slow. Very mature melodies that should appeal to many hard rock fans. 'Fooling Myself' is another great rock track with alert guitars and lovely vocals. The closing song 'Bad Bad Story' is the heaviest song on the album and my sleepy 80's hard rocking nerves starts to react. Overall it's a welcome and nice acquaintance to me. Line-up: |
