Psychopunch
from Västerås, Sweden started back in 1998
with members from various Punk, Death Metal
and Dirty Rock 'n' roll bands. Fifteen years
have passed and these guys have stayed true
to the alarming and high speed punk rock
that they've always played. Most of the tracks are under three minutes and I'm not sure if
I'm the right person to judge if the genre
is back or if it's hopelessly out of date.
To me this is straight forward, party rock
'n' roll with no extravagances. JM on vocals
has a perfect grainy voice to this scream
singing. In 'Sitting By the Railroad' it
gets quite melodic and enjoyable with strong
vocals and I start getting into a partying
mood. If I should have a summer party
outdoors with a lot of beer and alcohol,
this disc should fit very well.
These guys are probably better on a live
scene than in the studio. Full throttle rock
(Backyard Babies, Hellacopters on speed) in
contagious musical joy, which always is fun in small
doses, but on a full length album I get bored and skips in the
play list. No, I'm sorry, this isn't anything for me and mine
thumbs are down.
If you are a fan of this sort of rock and
loved the previous discs from Psychopunch, and then
you'll most likely appreciate this one too!
