There are many ways to torture your ears. If you have those machochistic tendencies, you might want to turn your hearing aid towards French one-man outfit Pensées Nocturnes. Although sporting an intriguing cover art and artwork and a promotional letter which is practically bursting with joy over the avant-garde black metal this album should supposedly hold, the contents of 'Nom d'Une Pipe' are, when it comes down to it, just a collection of disappointingly messy and terrible noise. Horns, blastbeats, wailing and murmur with a circus kind of feel. This is probably art, but I'm following. End of story.

The only tolerable piece is the very last (Bonne Biére et bonne chére); a moody chamber music sort of thing which then turns into a festivate and dynamic circus song. What a circus indeed!
