With 3 studio albums under their belt, “Pilgrimages of Doom” is the first visual release from the Maltese purveyors of Hammond-infused Doom. Nomad Son do not normally do tours (outside of Malta their appearances are mainly at Festivals) and they have never performed beyond Europe. So this DVD release is a perfect opportunity for Metal fans far and wide to experience the band’s live persona and get to know the band better.
“Pilgrimages of Doom” is basically a warts and all live exposition of a band that’s really at its best when delivering the goods from a stage. There are no pyrotechnics or extravagant props…..just the band, the music and the audience. All footage is decently-shot, even when space to manoeuvre the cameras is restrictive. As a result of all this, you really get the impression of being there and the band’s sheer enthusiasm risks rubbing off on you. Besides mainly focusing on their first 2 albums (their 3rd album was only released recently), one can also catch Nomad Son covering ‘At The End Of My Daze’ (originally by Trouble) and ‘Relentless’ (a Pentagram classic).
As if all this wasn’t enough, Metal On Metal Records are throwing in a re-release of Nomad Son’s sold-out debut “First Light” with the DVD. If you haven’t yet heard this album, trust me when I say this is no mere filler but a fantastic production of lively old-school Doom in the tradition of genre grandmasters such as Saint Vitus, The Obsessed and Trouble.
An essential item for your Metal DVD collection!
