Last years EP 'The Point of No Return' already showed that Havok still is a band to be reckoned with. Their 2011 album 'Time is Up' blew me away, so I was very eager to listen to this new album 'Unnatural Selection'. Well, I have to admit I am a little bit less enthusiastic then back in 2011 and for the biggest part the reason is that the surprise has gone. The music is still of the same high level, but they haven't developed it any further. The Bay Area thrash with influences of all the bands that made the genre big back in the eighties is everywhere (Overkill, Exodus, Forbidden, Death Angel, Anthrax etc. etc.). The execution is perfect and every song sounds like an well oiled engine. You feel the energy and the pleasure is dripping of the album. Catchy riffs, gang shouting's, aggressive singing, the pounding bass, and rattling drums; its' all there. Havok can easily compete with all the new Wave of Thrash bands and a lot of them will have difficulties topping this album. If you are a sucker for eighties Bay Area thrash, it will cost you some coin again; buy this new Havok album. | ||||||||||||||||||
