Hammered seem concerned with a Power Metal reminiscent of 1980s Metal such as early Helloween. So in “The Beginning” - the band’s…beginning – the quintet keenly delivers lots of big melodies and pummelling Thrash riffs.
Before long, however, the energy wears thin and the album turns out to be a collection of nondescript Metal numbers. Dubious song writing skills and clichéd lyrics weaken the album considerably but also the vocals are bland and judging by the album alone it’s clear that English isn’t the band’s mother tongue. Despite occasional flashes of inspiration the guitar solos are inconsistent in quality too.
The rhythm section and a few sparse ideas provide the album with some sort of redemption but it’s going to be easy for the band to become overswamped by a plethora of bands of the genre. Fans of this type of Metal might get a few kicks from the album. | ||||||||||||||||||
