I had stumbled upon Damnation Angels about 4 years ago when the band had only started to spread its wings. To my mind, back then, there was absolutely no doubt as to their potential. As it turns out, this debut full-length seems to vindicate my prescient intuition.

“Bringer Of Light” is dynamic, powerful and its execution is breathlessly sharp. The compositions exude a level of maturity rarely found within a debut album. All this is augmented by a superb sound production to make the album an intense listening experience. If I sound enthusiastic, it’s because I most certainly am!

A bit of trivia never did any harm so…..Damnation Angels emerged from Doncaster, a city half way between Manchester and the East coast of England. After seeing a series of excellent musicians come and go, the band seemed to have found a stable line-up when Norwegian singer Per Fredrik ‘Pellek’ Asly accepted an invitation to be part of Damnation Angels’ ambitions. At the time, Pellek was in the spotlight of Norwegian mainstream media after having won his country’s version of the X-Factor TV show.

Back to the dissection of this album……as far as comparisons go, Kamelot is the only point of reference that the curious music fan will ever need. In particular, the role of the keyboards and the singing techniques in “Bringer Of Light” are two elements that ardent Kamelot fans will be familiar with.

As the album spins there are moments when you might find yourself yearning for stronger originality. Nevertheless I have no hesitation in vouching for the quality of “Bringer of Light”.

Get it or be damned!
