'Corporation Fear' is the first track on Chrome Molly's new album 'Gunpowder Diplomacy' and it's the first tunes I've heard from this band since the end of the 80's! The band was formed in 1984 and released four albums before splitting up in 1991. They re-formed in 2009 and this is the first disc since 'Slaphead' in 1990. Steve Hawkins is still the vocalist in the band and with John Antcliffe on guitar and Nick Wastell on bass from the early years and together with the drummer Greg Ellis these four gentlemen have made a comeback that sounds really promising. Steve's voice is spiny and has been aged like an old whisky barrel. Quite similar to Mark Tornillo in Accept. The metal from Chrome Molly is very faithful to the 80's with driven melodic songs without advanced technical guitars or so. I get Little Angels, early Saxon, Demon, Rose Tattoo and Tygers of Pantang in my head when I listen to this album. When the first song 'Corporation Fear' fades out it feels like I'm sitting in a time machine. This is how metal was played, back in the 80's when I also had long dark hair and I wore metal band t-shirts in school. 'TV Cops' is a groovy track with a bluesy touch. 'Stop Love!' is a song that doesn't hook me. In 'Short Sharp Shock' it swings as well as hell and my right leg begins to bounce. Next track that's something particularly is 'Complicated' and this is perhaps the best song on the album. Not the heaviest or the best rock album this month, but it is very pleasurable. 'Gunpowder Diplomacy' is a very personal album that will be in my Ipod me for quite some time. It's hard to get enough of this old fashion metal. A nice reunion, which I hope will return with the next potential disc very soon. If you like the original UK metal sound or are just curious about these gentlemen, don't hesitate.
