My expectations was sky high for this album after a TV performance from this gifted and talented singer Anders Wigelius (a Swedish talent show). His version of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" was a sensational. His voice is made to sing in the AOR /Melodic Hard Rock top division. Anders's older brother Erik is playing the drums and with Jake Svensson - guitars and Chris "Wielbass" Pettersson on the bass, they have created a disc full of catchy songs and tasteful melodies, which is in the easy to learn and like melodic rock genre. 'Angeline' is a great opening song with mega strong vocals and a screaming guitar sound. In the rock track 'Piece of the Action', which is one of the best songs on 'Reinventions' Anders power voice comes into it's right pitch and with splendid guitar riffs and ultra melodic the tones come together helped by a flawless production by Daniel Flores. The calm and sensitive ballad 'Love Can Be That Much' is a cuddly song for both falling for each other and the unfortunate ones. The sound picture is typical for the Scandi melodic rock scene, combined with genes from the original sound of the recognizable productions of the American West Coast. 12 clean and polished gems, which are well written and masterly performed, which usually is rewarded with a very high score, but I do miss a some originality and there are too few songs that I get emotionally moved by. Clean, neat and tidy, but I would like some more elbow room with sharper guitars and wilder and stronger drums. Ahhh... This is a far better that an OK album, but I was hoping for even higher quality in the songs, but this is their debut album so.... Maybe it's because of my high expectations that I don't feel completely satisfied. I believe that there will be more albums from this gang, because the talent is obvious and Anders rock voice is really something to build on. He's just a little over 20 years old, so his musical future looks bright... Fans of the lighter melodic hard rock genre will appreciate this album! That's a promise. |
