The info-sheet wants us to believe that this third album from Finnish progressive metal band The Chant is ready to challenge bangs like: Porcupine Tree, A Perfect Circle, Anathema, Katatonia and Paradise Lost. Well, the influences from the mentioned bands are pretty obvious, but the quality of the songs is not strong enough yet...

The atmospheric soundscapes and the song structures do have a lot in common with the more gothic founded bands mentioned. The Chant is clearly on the right track here, and now all they need is to find a niche of their own, create some stronger songs and begin the quest to challenge the big ones in this segment.

They are clearly technically skilled, the production is good and the foundations are laid out well for them, and if you like this style then I am sure you'll pick up something here as well.

Do give The Chant a listen...
