Can a guy who sold over 3 million copies of his debut album in 1987, be totally out of talent? When his following disc came in -89 and sold over 7 millions copies, he became an institution. Mr Richard Noel Marx was a hit machine in the end of the 80's and in the beginning of the 90's. He became the first male solo artist in history to have his first 7 singles reach the top 5 on Billboard’s singles chart, including the # 1 hits 'Hold on to the Nights', 'Satisfied' and the worldwide classic, 'Right Here Waiting'. This feat remains unchallenged. He has continued doing albums, but he's also a brilliant top producer mostly for American pop productions. His voice still sounds like it did 20 years ago and the songs on his newest album ' Inside My Head' are full of timeless pop/light rock melodies. 'Inside My Head' contains 2 discs and CD 1 holds the new songs and several rare tracks from his US releases. The second disc is 12 re-recorded best of tunes from his career. I know that he's most known as the slow ballad male vocalist master, but he also can sing faster rock songs... In the groovy and funky track 'Come Running' he is showing another side of his musicality. 'All Over Me' is the pace higher and the drum skin is tight. Richard has a splendid rock voice and in these 2 songs he is showing why he still is a vocal force to be reckoned with. The disc is full of melodic songs and beautiful lyric, but if he had filled the album with 4-5 faster rock songs, I'm sure that my score could be much higher. He could easy be a vocalist in several of the reunited 80's hard rock bands, which often has problems to find a mature singer that can manage the higher tones. So all AOR bands: Try to get Richard Marx to the mic on your next album!! Richard became a megastar when he was 23 and next year he will be 50. I believe that he can still be a great hard rock singer, if he wants to be one I must say........ Overall is this a too clean, polished and radio fiendly album to get PowerofMetal.dk's metalheads interested, but I think that many AOR fans or girlfriends should appreciate some soft rock from this young melodic rock veteran. My wife liked this album very much anyway. |
