Although there are a couple of almost-strong tunes on 'Conflagration' the Norwegian three-piece Repulsive Aggression doesn't manage to cause a real stir. Why? Perhaps because the vocals of former Svarttjern shouter Holter are strangely restrained and lack dynamics entirely? Perhaps because of the plainly terrible guitar solo in Necrosis?
We're probably down to the entirely subjective views, but if you listen to a song like Sub Human Destruction, the beginning of the tune is fabulous! And then it sort of dies out. Next tune, Predator: really groovy intro, and then it's killed flat by Holter's vocal. This tendency is symptomatic of 'Conflagration'.
An album with great and promising passages, but on the whole, you're left with a taste of blandness and slight frustration because it didn't really work out. All teasers and no pussy at the end of the night.
Next, please.
