80's bands are flooding the market with reunion-discs and most of the bands have also new written material. To me, who is a big fan of the melodic rock there has been many opportunities to lean back and absorb the beautiful music that is provided by the 'old bands' this year. One of North Americas more popular rock bands in the 80's was Canadian band Loverboy. They are releasing a kind of 'Best Of' album to the audience, but they have spiced this disc up with 3 brand new songs. Old hit songs like 'Turn Me Loose' and 'Working for the Weekend' are really nice to listen to again. I missed several of their albums when they were released in the 80's, so this a pleasant album to rediscover Loverboys songs from their glory days by. Their work with the super producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Aerosmith, The Cure, Bon Jovi) has resulted in a real piece of art. Although, I don't really like these 'best of' discs, but this album is a new awakening and with 3 brand new tracks ('Rock 'N' Roll Revival', 'No Tomorrow' and 'Heartbreaker') this is a very good album to listen to from the magical decade that gave us an inexhaustible well to dig up golden songs from. Typical of this era, is the clear vocals, beautiful melodies with solid, strong guitars that carries the songs all the way. 'Rock n roll Revival' is full of it! The three new tracks melt into the tracklist just perfectly and hopefully they will give us a full-length album with only new-written material next time. Loverboy wasn't one of the biggest band in Europe, so this is a chance to get to know these rock veterans (if you missed out on them). They are on the road this summer/autumn with Pat Benatar and Journey. Sadly for us, only in America. We have to be satisfied with this piece, so enjoy! Loverboy is: Mike Reno - Vocals, Paul Dean - Guitars, Doug Johnson - Keyboard, Matt Frenette - Drums and Ken Sinnaeve on the Bass. |
