In
the wave of Swedish AOR rock projects rolls
another band onto the beach; Love Under Cover
is a fresh melodic rock acquaintanceship with such
talented members as Mikael Erlandsson - Vocals
(Last Autum's Dream / Salute), Martin Kronlund -
guitars (Gypsy Rose / Phenomena / Salute), Perra
Johnsson - drums (Coldspell) and the founder of
the band Mikael Carlsson - bass, guitar, keyboard
and vocals.
Erlandsson has plenty of space on this album
to shine with his masterful voice, just as he does
in Last Autum's Dream. Very 80's melodic hard rock is my
comparisons and with a cover of an old great Swedish hit song:
"Flash in the Night" (Secret
Service). Sadly as usual with covers - the
original is better. Anyway this album is full of nice
gems for those who love brilliant and clean
productions with many melodies and amazing
vocals.
Sadly I do find a few sleeping pills in the
middle of 'Set the Night ob Fire', which is pulling
my score down a bit, but
this piece still lands on a decent OK level. In the more
heavy rocking tracks like 'Angels Will Cry', 'Who Needs
Love', 'Hero' and 'Crazy for You' Mikael's
strong voice hits the right tune and these four
songs will stay in my save folder.
The album ends with a real affectionate ballad (A
Nice Day) that's really pleasant actually.
Otherwise there is much ear candy for guitar fans
(like myself) and they have two guitarists
complementing each other just perfectly.
I can briefly say: An OK Scandi-AOR album.
